The Poetry List
The Poetry List – November
Editor’s Rant
The days are fairly flowing on and it won’t be long until it’s T shirt and sandals time… though maybe not for me. I leave for a 7-week trip to Japan in late Nov, returning in the New Year, but don’t worry, there will be a Poetry List December, so please do send me your listings.
Well, the self-promotional item first! This month I launch my new poetry chapbook, Banana. Some of you may remember the last launch which was at a tiny little dumpling shop in Dominion Rd. This time we take over Te Karanga Gallery and teashop in K’rd, drink in poetry, snack on music and crafts, and munch on homemade goodies (you can’t expect to call a book Banana and not have banana cake!) So please come, everyone is welcome, and details are below.
Also this month is the first of the summer festivals, Parnell Festival of Roses. Last year we had our own stage but this year they decided to have a regular lineup of poets on the main stage – and they are excellent poets, so go along and enjoy your poetry with roses! There are also plenty of daytime (Spring Series, Magazine Launch) and evening (My Mother thinks I’m Talented, Fete Macabre, Makeshift Launch, Poetry Live, Courage Day) events to keep you all going!
At the beginning of December Poetry Live moves to Te Karanga Gallery, 208 K’rd (opposite St Kevin’s Arcade and upstairs/next to Illicit clothing). This is an exciting new partnership as Te Karanga is run as a trust to benefit emerging artists and as well as being an amazing teashop, bar and art gallery, also has an in-house radio station. We’ll be trialling the new venue through Dec, so please come and check it out and tell us what you think.
Also, another reminder that submissions for the annual anthology of Poetry Live, Live Lines, closes on Nov 14th. Details at the end of this List.
Renee
Comments and listings (poetry-related only) are welcome. If your event occurs before the next Poetry List is due, generally the first week of each month, tell me anyway and I’ll put it on the website. As always, if I emailed you in error, my sincerest apologies, ask me and I’ll unsubscribe you.
If you can’t wait a month for this newsletter, the site also has a list of poetry events updated continuously, found at http://groups.msn.com/PoetryLivefourbytwopublishing/newevents.msnw. You’ll see a “this site has moved” sign, but just click on the menu bar and you’ll find the familiar old pages. The new Poetry Live website is now under construction and will have all kinds of great features, more news soon.
In the meantime please keep chucking any events listings or suggestions at me. Also if you know anyone who isn’t getting these emails but wants to, let me know – there have been some issues with some emails not getting through recently, so I will try and check.
If you want to get on the separate Poetry Live email list to get weekly emails on what’s happening at Poetry Live, contact me or any of the other three MCs.
