Poetry Live November 11, 2008 It was Armastice Day, celebrating the end of WW1 and there were quite a few poems reflecting that. A real treat was Elizabeth Wilson reading a selection of her verse, and Michael Rudd with his tone poem that evolved from sounds given by the audience. Raewyn Alexander also read a lively set. I enjoyed Jason immensely and quite a few others. Anna Kaye read something she wrote on the spot – it was extraordinarily good. And I had a read, also.  An interesting and rewarding night with many readers.

Poetry Live REVIEW

Tuesday – July 22th – Back in the “Old days”, when Poetry Live was at the Shakespere – a new group of women performers started to be more and more popular – these included Genevieve McClean, Raewyn Alexander, Olwyn Stewart, Olivia Macassy and Judith McNeill. And last week at Poetry Live, the new Live Lines was launched (an annual and very lovely publication of Poetry Live). And these women poets read. We hope to bring you excerpts of this powerful series of readings by these poets – many now highly accomplished as writers and academics in their own right.

Anyone been going to Poetry Live? Please leave your comments – interested. Last years run of poets I saw at Poetry Live were more than just interesting, perhaps I sidetracked from my intention to capture poetry live on film. I hope to film poets again this year. It is best if poets approach me via email if they want a page on this site, or have their work filmed or featured.

I hope to visit on Tuesday 18th November-two days after my arrival from the UK. Hopefully I can spend the NZ summer listening to NZ poetry and also sharing my own (Liverpool) verse.

I went last week. It was great! I just listened in, and enjoyed myself. They used a slam format, but it is usually just a poetry open mic with special guests. It was definitely eclectic- all types of people and poetry. Highly recommended.
