The Wordpress Blog site
This was an experiment. If worked, so AucklandPoetry is starting from scratch with this new posting environment - and it is so much better! We believe that open source software provides the most adaptive of collaborative environments.
A social networking approach is what I am looking for and trying out various pieces of open source content management packages to provide this was fairly difficult. You see, it simply wants to be good at writing, good at joining and good at management. Poetry publication requires good formatting. It requires a “group blog” rather than a “me” page. That exists elsewhere.
I am interested in film. As a poet my interest in the dramatic stems from a family obsession with theatre. More on that another day - but when asked about publishing my own works - I wonder why - is that why I write - to see it in print? Or is it another sense entirely that attracts me. That which needles my blood is not the action of writing or even the sharing of writing (as much as I enjoy listening to great writing, the charm is lost when I stand full of nerves, with wrinkled sheets of paper in my clammy fist - and that lone microphone standing on a stage - at least the latest venue has lighting - in fact the more I think about the latest venue it is exactly that, my own nerves that it makes more poignant than ever. Reading my old friend’s blog about sharing her writing and I can see her as a writer realizing the expectations of the profession - she has become one who can refine her art with split hair accuracy and creates her own social fabric.
I have often wondered why, but somehow my writer-path is a different one. I have rather a lot of computer knowledge and am trying to find the right vehicle for you to publish your own work. This is an experiment, a test, to see if Wordpress will work.
So far, the paragraphing is not too offensive - a WYSIWYG editor that works for poetry and cut and paste - looks good.
The ability of some of the designed templates to republish the site is quite wonderful. But some templates do not support all the required functionality, so bear with a little experimentation!
