User names

User names and passwords are your own private property and access to the site. You can select your publishing name as your real name or your login name. It is up to you to present your work as best you can. We prefer that poets publish under their pen name. But over to you. We prefer poets declare their own copyright notice, but not everyone bothers.

Tags

This is that list of words following the title – being moved to follow the poem – this list is search engine fodder to make you more famous. If you do not like them, uncheck the boxes when you edit your poem. I suggest you keep them intact – when your poem disappears it is one way for people to find them again.

Editing your work (slightly) NEW PROCEDURE

By contributing, you agree that we may publish your work. We are more selective on the published editions on the front page of the site.

Please only post ONE copy of any poem on the site. You can post your work as Draft (may or may not be finished) and when you want to submit it for publication – you can set it to Pending Review.

Your work will be considered for inclusion. It is is included it becomes part of the site. Poems may be featured in (approx monthly) editions which are featured on the front page of the site.

Please do comment on others’ poems, and accept comments on your poems. All comments are moderated to prevent spam or abuse.

The Editor may accept your work outright immediately or any any time later. You, or the Editor, may chose to set your work as Private (only you and Editor can see it) or Public (its published). NB: At anytime you can set your work to Private to simply hide it from public view. (Or, if you can not login, you can email the editor using the Contact us link on the site).

As you are in control of your work as author, via your password you accept responsibility for and agree it can be published on the AucklandPoetry.com website.  But if something goes wrong, and you need an override please contact info@aucklandpoetry.com. Users may remove their work by deleting their account. Works featured in an Edition require an email to identify them. Poems belong to the poets and AucklandPoetry will only show your work on this site. By submitting your work, you are implicitly and without reserve granting us copyright permission to publish your work under your control.

About twice a month an Edition is produced from the best works since the last edition. Your work may thus be featured permanently on the site in an Edition or as a searchable publication.

If accepted and a contributor successfully publishes a number of works on this site – an invitation to be an author is given, enabling instant posting on this site. Authors we expect you to post as regularly or often as they wish – the idea is to provide an on the web resource for live performance and written poetry highlighting poetry by Auckland Poets.

The new site format has been a great success – and continues to grow daily. This is of course down to the poets posting blogs and links on myspace to their works here, and vice-versa.

The “agenda” here is to find and publish great poetry. It is to build a web search-able archive of works by Auckland Poets. From that, we plan to bring the best of your work together in other interesting publications (payment is on a royalty basis if there is a charge for a publication, but not for publishing on this site which is free) but more on that another day.

Publishing

You can publish in this site. AucklandPoetry was one of the first and still running poetry publication sites on the net. After publication you can leave your poem published (recommended) or search for it, and edit it at any time (if you are logged in). And return it to Private it if you want or remove it as you wish. At all times your poem is your own and if you are about to publish it – and really need to remove it – we suggest leaving the title and first line intact with a link to where it is now.

I am completing a study of poetry with Whitireia Polytechnic , can I ask the name of the present editor for Auckland poetry.com and if there are any favoured poetry styles that may effect the decision to publish.
    Kind regards roan

The acting editor is Nicholas Alexander, an Auckland Poet and a web programmer. I set the initial site up in 2001.

Aucklandpoetry.com has evolved over the past eight years from an experiment to see how poets would interact on-line.

Since then thousands of poems have been published to a world audience.

There is a preference for voice of Auckland,of Aotearoa, a preference for language poetry, modernist and post-modern over “romance” angst.

For me personally it is the VOICE of the work.

Some poets are given the freedom to write and publish at will (Author status), these are no longer previewed by an editor.

Hope this helps, thank you for a most interesting question.
