How to post your poetry

Published by Editor

Welcome to the new AucklandPoetry.com – the aim is to provide writers with a social platform to present and share their work. After much software testing, it seems apparent to me that this is by far the most user friendly and idiot proof writing tool (wordpress) to allow you to join and share your work.

It is simple:

1/ Register to join

2/ Login to post your poems – an admin link should appear under Meta. Remember to sign your poems and place your own copyright notice on them.

When you want your poem to be highlighted for consideration by the Editor, mark it’s status as “Pending Review”.

3/ Do leave comments on others poems

We will post the most commented upon poems to our blogspot archive of searchable poetry which gets indexed by google and allows you to find your works.

The AucklandPoetry Blogspot archive is : http://blogspot.aucklandpoetry.com

AucklandPoetry.com recommends http://newzealandpoetry.org for those wanting a more “social experience” – posting and commenting is not edited there either.

Whereas this site is edited to produce the monthly editions – NewZealandPoetry.org is a new experimental user social network that has a “top twenty most popular poems” on the site.

This page has the following sub pages.

    Dear Editor,

With season’s greetings of Dr. Ram Mehta.

I have been just registered with you. I am trying to submit a poem for your consideration but of no avail.

Would you please direct me as to how I can post or submit my works?

    With best of thoughts,

    Ram Mehta

    Dear Dr Ram

New poets (Contributors) can submit their work to the Wordpress system. I can see you have done that. Then I will edit the work and this means that I chose a suitable release moment for one reason or another.

The idea is that after successful publication here or in print, some poets may ask to be “Authors” on this site – this means that their contributions are public immediately.

Authors also can have their own page on the site.

I look forward to more internationally based Auckland Poets – all voices need to be heard in today’s world. When I arrived in Auckland in 1975 – it was not the international city of a great Pacific nation, but there were electric trolly busses. Now Auckland is a city where Hollywood films are made and some great poetry at Poetry Live.

    Best and Welcome to AucklandPoetry!

The site seems a well run one.
The standard of writing is an encouragement to strive for clarity in one’s own writing.
I look forward to using it more frequently and to my time later this year when I will be ‘Auckland based’

    dear Editor
I have some family and friends who I have asked to comment on my work…if they are not a member, how can they do this…
also is there a limit to how many of my writings that I can submit to your site.
last but not least….I wanted to thank you for the editing you did to
some of my work..I liked it… thank you……RJS

  7. I have just joined the site, and posted a poem – I don’t understand the comment ‘an admin link should appear under Meta. Remember to sign your poems and place your own copyright notice on them.’ and trust that I have done the right thing.

How do I ’sign’ the poem, and what do you mean by ‘your own copyright notice’?

  8. Editor says:

    Hi Just Mercedes

Thanks for posting and asking good questions. I never seem to realise if I am not being very clear!

On the site HOME page, there is a “Site Meta” section on the menu left hand side. This contains the Register/Login links and Site Admin (for posting). This may change as I upgrade the version of Word Press to 2.7 shortly (for the better, I believe).

Sign your poem normally. I make sure I put my name to my work as I want to assert that I own it. Copyright is the ability to say whether any other party can publish your work. It is a privilege to publish the works of others. One day I hope the google links start to return some cash – maybe will then offer prizes or something. Your own copyright notice is up to the individual. I prefer to say I own my own work – I would prefer to have a say in how it is used.

    Example:

    Title

    Poem
    Poem

Copyright © 2008 by Nicholas Alexander

would be a copyright notice I would use on my poems.

    Hi
I am finding the site difficult to understand, ( my failings not the site) I seem to be on my own making comments so maybe I have misunderstood something. I think I am posting poems okay but most of the options are beyond my computer (or maybe wordpress) knowledge. will someone tell me if I make an error, comment on something I should,nt. I love reading the
poems so hope to stay and enjoy anyway. Regards Roan.

  10. Editor says:

    Hi Roan

I must thank you for your contributions which have started to appear. Your comments appear after a short (or indefinite) delay as I generally do approve comments unless they appear to be spam. Comments are most welcome but they are checked before inclusion. Glad to hear you love reading the poems. Music to the ear of those who submit many poems to the site. Please do stay and submit more – including a bio if you want your own page (under Poets)

‘an admin link should appear under Meta. ‘… where and what is Meta?

  12. TT says:

I have figured out how to post now but am curious as to why we can’t edit our posts and why we can’t personal message each other?

  13. Editor says:

You should be able to edit your posts once they are saved. When you are done editing, and save your post change its status so its in the editing queue.

If you live in NZ and want to interact with other poets in a social network context, see http://newzealandpoetry.org

Thankyou for your feedback and great questions.

  14. Editor says:

It is a link on the Home page – way down the page – where the admin access, login, etc are. I hope you found it, eventually. Sorry if it was too hidden.
