About - updated

Published by Editor

Auckland Poetry is a continuous web publication that welcomes new contributors to register and submit work for consideration. Every so often an Edition is selected from the stream and preserved on the Current Edition page - and published to the site home page.

What’s New?

May 2008

Contributors who have successfully posted comments before will now bypass moderation clearance. AucklandPoetry.com is meant to be a work of art so limiting direct access to just a few is wise in this world of spammers. Contributors who have had at least two comments approved should no longer require approval. Hope it works. Look forward to more interactive comment making by all.

January 2008

Reviews - we now extract choice comments and preserve them with the current issue as Reviews on their own page. Has your poem received a review?  Is it a good one?

Basics

User names

User names and passwords are your own private property and access to the site.  You can select your publishing name as your real name or your login name.  It is up to you to present your work as best you can.  We prefer that poets publish under their pen name.  But over to you. We prefer poets declare their own copyright notice, but not everyone bothers.Tags

This is that list of words following the title - being moved to follow the poem - this list is search engine fodder to make you more famous.   If you do not like them, uncheck the boxes when you edit your poem.  I suggest you keep them intact - when your poem disappears it is one way for people to find them again.

Editing your work

You may find Editor’s Notes on your submission draft.

Very simply, Draft  works saved by Contributors may be to be reviewed for publication.  By contributing, you agree that we may publish your work.  We are more selective on the published editions on the front page of the site.

Please only post ONE copy of any poem on the site.   Please do comment on others poems, and accept comments on your poems.  All comments are moderated to prevent spam and allow some editorial control over what is commented upon.

The Editor may accept your work outright or reject it. At anytime you can set your work to Private to simply hide it from public view.  (If you can not login, you can email the editor using the Contact us link on the site).

When the Editor accepts your work, it appears on the Fresh page. It may or may not be chosen for inclusion in the next Current Edition.

If accepted and a contributor successfully publishes a number of works on this site - an invitation to be an author is given, enabling instant posting on this site.  Authors we expect you to post as regularly or often as they wish - the idea is to provide an on the web resource for live performance and written poetry highlighting poetry by Auckland Poets.

The new site format has been a great success - and continues to grow daily. This is of course down to the poets posting blogs and links on myspace to their works here, and vice-versa.

Poetry is often confined into certain universes - like publications, events, genres - and many people have advised me from time to time to publish only this type or that type of poetics.

The “agenda” here is to find and publish great poetry. It is to build a web search-able archive of works by Auckland Poets. From that, we plan to bring the best of your work together in other interesting publications (payment is on a royalty basis if there is a charge for a publication, but not for publishing on this site which is free) but more on that another day.

Publishing

You can publish in this site.  AucklandPoetry was one of the first and still running poetry publication sites on the net. After publication you can leave your poem published (recommended) or search for it, and edit it at any time (if you are logged in).  And return it to Private it if you want or remove it as you wish.  At all times your poem is your own and if you are about to publish it - and really need to remove it - we suggest leaving the title and first line intact with a link to where it is now.
